The Marie Coquine 12-Light Chandelier is a striking fusion of classic elegance and whimsical design, conceived by renowned French designer Philippe Starck in collaboration with the esteemed crystal manufacturer Baccarat. Introduced in 2011, this piece reimagines the traditional chandelier by integrating unexpected elements, resulting in a functional art installation that challenges conventional aesthetics.
At its core, the Marie Coquine chandelier features a 12-light Zénith chandelier crafted from clear Baccarat crystal, adorned with 12 white taffeta lampshades. A distinctive red octagonal crystal, emblematic of Baccarat's signature, adds a touch of color to the composition. What sets this piece apart is the incorporation of an ivory canvas umbrella with a chestnut wood handle, suspended above the chandelier, creating a surreal and poetic visual effect. The metallic band of the umbrella bears the signatures of both Baccarat and Starck, underscoring the collaboration between the two design powerhouses.
