A fine and exceedingly rare French pocket watch by Maison Chavin, dating from around 1880–1890, preserved in remarkable condition and accompanied by its original signed presentation case.
The watch is housed in a massive gold case of fine quality, numbered inside the cuvette. The inner dust cover bears the signature Maison Chavin, confirming the maker’s hand and attesting to the refined craftsmanship typical of the late 19th century.
The white enamel dial displays elegant Arabic numerals with finely drawn black minute tracks and blued steel hands, characteristic of the French Belle Époque aesthetic. The mechanical movement—finely finished and hand-assembled—illustrates the precision and care of an independent horological atelier of the period.
Accompanying the timepiece is its original vintage presentation The case is engraved “Maison Chavin, H. Drevon Succr, Lyon”. The inside bears the initials of the Commissioner, “H.C.”, while the back of the watch is engraved with matching initials “H.C.”.
The matching initials between the watch and its box confirm the integrity of this ensemble—a rare and precious occurrence among surviving 19th-century French timepieces.
